Main Objectives
- Direct Messiah’s worship band and contemporary worship service.
- Develop worship that is invitational, relational, and transformational.
- Embody Messiah’s values of hospitality and inclusion to reach our mission of growing disciples.
- Collaborate with other ministry areas to strengthen and grow disciples.
- Develop, nurture, and invite musicians to share their gifts, growing our music ministry.
Qualifications
- 3 years of related experience, showing proficiency in leading contemporary worship.
- Accomplished vocalist, keyboard/pianist and/or guitarist.
- Experience playing and/or leading contemporary, pop, and/or rock bands.
- Spiritual maturity, social-emotional health, and a desire to learn and grow in faith.
- A creative, collaborative spirit, committed to inclusion and hospitality.
- Commitment to the long-term health, vitality, and witness of the church.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise others, including: staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Available Sunday mornings, some evenings, and church holidays, including Easter and Christmas Eve.
Responsibilities
- Lead contemporary worship services with music and prayer that is modern, inspirational, and relevant to the worship theme.
- Recruit, schedule, and develop worship band musicians and singers.
- Direct weekly band practice (evenings).
- Record and plan music offerings for our weekly Church on the Go worship podcast.
- Collaborate with others to develop and grow Messiah’s online community.
- Maintain a commitment to excellence in the visuals, sounds, and accessibility of worship.
- Create an atmosphere of worship that encourages participation and engagement from the congregation.
- Stay up-to-date with current worship music trends and incorporate new songs into services.
- Monitor payroll and budget for contemporary worship.
- Provide opportunities for people of a wide range of ages, cultures, and abilities to serve.
- Collaborate for special events involving worship band, such as a summer block party or Vacation Bible Camp.
- Develop opportunities for outreach and community building, such as: musicals or a youth band.
This is a 13 hr/wk part-time, salaried position. Direct accountability to the Director of Worship.
