Pastor Dick Ellis and several teams have traveled to Russia to gather information and to develop relationships that will allow Messiah to send mission teams to the Eurasian country in 2010 and beyond.
The teams have returned from their respective trips enthusiastic about the interactions they had with the Russian people and the opportunities they identified for Messiah to serve them. “We really had a chance to get to know the people and their needs. What we found is that there are many places where the talents of folks back here at Messiah could be put to use over there,” commented Pastor Dick.
Methodist Church Building in St. Petersburg, Russia A few of the examples Pastor Dick sited involve working with children in a latchkey program, leading a Vacation Bible Camp with one of the Messiah-developed curriculum translated into Russian and finishing the construction of a church building.
In March of 2009, the Russian UMC purchased this building (shown right), supported by funds from Messiah. It will house an office, study room and a Sanctuary with about 20 local churches using it!
We sent a team to Russia, September 3-15, 2009 to serve at the new Church Center in St. Petersburg, Russia. Painting, more painting and meeting Russian Christians were some of the activities. For more details, contact Pastor Dick Ellis at the church.
There is an article in the November, 2009 Belonging Newsletter.
